The Hollow Has Found Its Way Into Watercolor (Dispatch 5)

Some places are remembered because we have been there. Others stay with us for reasons that are harder to explain.

Roadstand Hollow has always belonged to the second kind.

Readers have walked its streets through stories, crossed its bridges, noticed lanterns glowing through the rain, wandered past familiar storefronts, and followed roads that sometimes seem to remember more than the travelers upon them. Yet until now, most of those places have lived primarily in words and imagination.

That has changed.

Why Some Stories Ask to Be Read Twice (Dispatch 4)

Most books are read from beginning to end.  A few remarkable ones quietly invite you back.  Not because you missed the ending—but because the ending changes the beginning.

As Roadstand Hollow has grown from a single story into a larger journey, I've found myself thinking about something curious. There are moments that seem simple the first time you encounter them. A conversation. A lantern glowing in the distance. A bell ringing only once. Someone saying a few quiet words that don't seem especially important.

Then, several chapters—or even another book—later, those same moments begin to shine differently. Nothing has changed on the page.  The reader has.  That may be one of my favorite kinds of storytelling. The sort that doesn't reveal all of its treasures at once, but trusts you to discover them in your own time.

I've often joked that finishing a trilogy can feel like realizing you've been trying to fold a laundry basket that was never emptied first. Once everything is laid out in front of you, suddenly every piece seems to fit exactly where it always belonged.  That's the hope for Roadstand Hollow.

I hope you'll enjoy the first journey because you genuinely want to know what happens next.  But I also hope that when you reach the final page, you'll smile, close the book for a moment......and then feel an unexpected urge to return to the beginning.  Not because you have to.

Because now you'll be reading an entirely different story.

New Feature: Discover the Story Behind Every Song, Blog Post 11

Every song has a beginning.

Sometimes it starts with a single conversation. Sometimes with a quiet walk through Roadstand Hollow. Other times, it grows from a moment in one of the books that simply refused to stay on the page.

I'm pleased to introduce the new Song Origins Page on the Roadstand Hollow website.

For every original Roadstand Hollow song released, you'll now be able to discover the story behind its creation. Learn what inspired each piece, how it connects to the people and places of the Hollow, and why that particular song became part of this growing world.

The music of Roadstand Hollow was never meant to stand apart from the stories. It was created to accompany them—to capture emotions, memories, friendships, and moments that words alone sometimes can't fully express.

Whether you've listened to every song or are just discovering the music for the first time, I hope the Song Origins page gives you a deeper appreciation for both the songs and the world that inspired them.

So the next time you hear one of our melodies, take a few moments afterward to visit the Song Origins page. You may discover that every lyric has its own story—and every story has found its own song.

Thank you for continuing this journey through Roadstand Hollow. There are many more stories, songs, and discoveries still waiting just around the next corner.

The Lantern Festival

There is one evening each year when Roadstand Hollow seems to glow from the inside out.

No one marks the date on a calendar. No invitations are mailed. Yet somehow, everyone knows when it is time. As twilight settles across the Hollow, blue lanterns begin appearing on porches, shop windows, fences, and along quiet paths that wind through town. By nightfall, the streets shimmer with soft blue light.

Some visitors believe every lantern tells a story. Others say each light represents a wish that found its way home.

When Music Meets Storytelling

Some stories are written. Some stories are sung. Roadstand Hollow has always felt like both.

Long before every chapter is finished, music begins finding its way into the Hollow. Sometimes it arrives while a scene is still taking shape. Sometimes a single line of dialogue echoes for days until it becomes the first lyric of a song. Other times, it is simply the feeling of a place that refuses to leave.

That is how the songs of Roadstand Hollow are born. They are not retellings of the books. They are companions.

The Blue Lantern

If you spend enough time in Roadstand-Hollow, one object begins to appear again and again.

A blue lantern.

Sometimes it hangs outside a quiet little shop. Sometimes it glows beside an empty road just before dusk. Other times it waits in the distance, almost hidden by fog, as though it has been expecting someone all along.

People often ask the same question.

Sound of the Hollow Has Finally Arrived

Some stories begin with a single sentence. Roadstand Hollow began with a single road.

Long before the books found their covers, before the maps were drawn, and before the first blue lantern glowed in the evening fog, there was a feeling that refused to leave. It was quiet. Hopeful. Familiar. Like remembering a place that somehow remembered you.

That feeling has now found its voice.

Today marks the release of the official Roadstand Hollow Theme Song—a musical welcome to the Hollow and to everyone who has ever wondered what waits at the end of an unfamiliar road.

Why Roadstand Hollow Exists

Every author is asked the same question sooner or later: "Where did the idea come from?"

The answer is usually a place, a memory, or a single moment.

Roadstand Hollow began with something much quieter.

It began with a feeling.

Most of us have walked away from dreams we once believed would happen. We have all carried conversations we wish we had finished, friendships we wish we had protected, roads we wish we had taken, and people we wish we had thanked one more time. Life moves quickly, and sometimes the important things are left standing beside the road while we hurry toward tomorrow.

Roadstand Hollow asks a simple question.

What if those forgotten hopes were never truly forgotten?

What if there was a place where kindness mattered more than perfection? Where regrets didn't define a person? Where second chances arrived quietly instead of all at once?

That is the town I wanted to create.

Not a town filled with heroes, villains, or impossible magic. Instead, a place where ordinary people discover that even small acts of compassion can change a life. A place where a cup of tea, a handwritten note, a blue lantern, or an unexpected conversation can become the beginning of healing.

Roadstand Hollow isn't about escaping the real world.

It's about remembering what the real world sometimes forgets.

Hope. Grace. Forgiveness.

And the quiet belief that no one is ever completely beyond finding their way home.

Perhaps that is why the roads in the Hollow always seem to remember where people belong.

Perhaps that is why the blue lantern never stops burning.

And perhaps that is why every story in the series begins with someone who believes their journey is over... only to discover it has quietly been waiting to begin.

If you've ever wondered whether life still has another chapter waiting for you, I hope you'll spend some time in Roadstand Hollow.  Make sure you visit The Wishkeeper's Corner.

The porch light is on.

The kettle is warm.

And somewhere, just around the next bend in the road, a blue lantern is still waiting.
